Just as one always suspected. You seem to get the feeling that you see more Indians in NYC everytime you go back to the city. Well Times of India has just highlighted it with a statistic that says
Indian-American population in NYC has increased by 25% (as of 2001 census). Check this Stat for a split up of the numbers.
But trust me I'm very sceptic about the whole thing, 'cause between the time the guys from the census department rang the door bells and now so much water has flown under the Brooklyn Bridge and Wall street fortunes have taken such a beating that I wouldn't be surprised if that trend (population increase) has already changed, if not reversed. Remember, these were the happy days before Enron and Worldcom happened and Martha Stewart was still a good gal.
Plus the Census Team states "Such dramatic growth can occur - even in one year - as immigrant communities mature and survey takers become more skilled at tapping into those communities." According to me, what they may have meant is that immigrants don't run away from these surveys anymore and survey takers are doing a better job at actually going INTO these communities to do thier job.
